Matt Tilley returns to Melbourne radio on Nova 100

Awesome news. Gonna be good local radio.

Most recently on breakfast with Jo Stanley? Have you forgotten his MOST recent stintS on KIIS with Jane Hall and then Meshel Laurie?

Or are you just continuing your biased stance against anything to do with KIIS?

Life after ARN (and after, after Fox) for Matt and Troy! Will be interesting to hear how much talking Matt does. I also wonder how much they’re paying him? I guess he wasn’t exactly in demand after being replaced by Jase & PJ, so probably not much (but this raise in profile will help him get other work in the media, probably on channel 10). Anyway, good on him for getting a new gig. And surely this is another nail in the coffin of KIIS Melbourne. Their workday and drive is woeful, and while Jase and PJ are good to listen to, they’re not rating. As others on this site have recommend, ARN should move Jase and PJ to drive…and take Will and Woody out to pasture. A breakfast replacement on KIIS Melbourne? They’ll never make it work. The one single survey in the history of the 101.1 frequency they got number one FM breakfast with Chrissy and Jane in 2014 was a fluke when every FM station was under 8% for one survey! And then they fired Chrissy…maybe they’ll get an American in to save the day.

Gamechanger for Nova. I bet ARN are wishing they had Matt back on KIIS breakfast now after the new shows performance. Not good news for Fox either there would be plenty of Matt fans who will change to Nova.

KIIS in Melbourne have got no chance now. Good work Rohan getting Matt back on radio. Last time I heard him on KIIS he sounded as good as ever.

DP I agree Jase and PJ need to be Drive or Nights at best. Get rid of Will and Woody they sound woeful. After their Perth stint SCA didn’t want them anymore it’s a known fact. KIIS need to find a new breakfast show something that’s different to everything else in the market. And not some bozo from the UK.

Good news to wake up to. Matt’s brilliant. SCA and ARN’s loss and NE’s gain.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that drive show Matt did on Triple M after leaving Fox.

The show was intelligent and entertaining, but also failed to rate. Lots of respect for Matt, good luck, but this feels so far from a good idea I have no clue what Nova’s thinking.

Not the first time mornings has been talent driven remember Grubby &Dee Dee who did 9-12 on Fox. Music stations need more entertainment across the work day. Using Matt Tilley’s success and heritage in Melbourne is smart. What will Fox do to counter? Play 10 songs on a row or some boring contest. Good talent will win every time.

With Matt Tilley’s radio know how and track record this will do well. Paul Jackson comes up with another good talent call. For a bloke from Scotland he is reading the market better than the ARN and SCA programmers. And SCA Head honchos take note it’s better to have experienced broadcasters who do Radio well than TV talking heads and comics like Grant Denyer, Jane Kennedy, Rove McManus, The Chaser, Lawrence Mooney, Ed Kavallee, Carrie Bickmore etc etc none of whom have delivered the ratings.

20 years in breakfast radio on Fox so why did they get rid of him to start with. It’s not like he’s old think he’d still be in his forties. Look at Elvis Duran on Z100 in NY he’s mid to late 50’s or Kevin and Bean on KROQ LA. Both in mid 50’s and have been on LA’s hippest radio station for nearly 30 years. Good one Nova.

Not sure about this…. Australia does not seem like a market where “workday shows” work. Talkback obviously does… but different demo that is use to wall to wall talk and content. This is a music format now switching to what I’ll assume is a more content focused program.

As for the “look out everybody else” I feel like Matt has lost the shine he once had. Don’t get me wrong, he was and is an excellent broadcaster, but the Melbourne market is now full of big name talent that I think now have the same pull that Matt once had.

Will be watching with interest.

Jimmy the One Percenters Drive Show was poorly cast and Jo wasn’t right for radio he’s well suited to Studio Ten and going really well.

You watch Fox will now put a show in at 9am. Gemma should put Those Two Girls in across the Hit network they are fresh and interesting.

This appointment reflects how much has changed about Nova. It’s a very different station to the ‘sounds different’ station that made it a brand.

Now it’s even departing what might be termed a ‘CHR’ format. has everyone noticed that every station is doing ‘hits and memories now? not exactly a criticism of Tilley. Just pointing out the very conservative point commercial radio has reached after a long period in which it was the norm for a market to have New music formats besides Triple J.

Yeah, agree with Jase & PJ being misplaced talent. they are really promising, at times delightful and funny. But I cringe at seeing their TVC campaign and the ratings reflect the unsurprising fact that the KIIS 101.1 breakfast is perhaps the toughest gig besides the 2Day gig. Ironic they were poached for their performance on ZM drive and then not first considered for the ARN drive.

I now think it’s worth giving K&J the Elvis Duran treatment. not because I endorse national breakfast shows. specifically because KIIS breakfast in Melbourne is just such a problem child

At least Matt is an Aussie there are too many pommies and kiwis on radio here. And they don’t rate. Good luck Matt I’ll be listening. The Melbourne cab driver test says they know and like Matt Tilley.

Nova has gone down hill in the last few months – in all honesty.

Troy Ellis & DC have been rating fairly consistently in the last year, especially in the last few books of last year. Why replace that? Greg Burns was solid in Brisbane (Number 1 in mornings) but then got the flick. It’s a pity both Troy and DC will have to sacrifice a market for Matt and Smallzy. I give this 6 months!

@Joey – Jase and PJ were meant to be on ARN Drive but got moved to Brekkie because Hughesy and Kate who were slated for KIIS Melbourne brekkie jumped to SCA; and Will and Woody were meant to replace The Thinkergirls.

This is the best news Kiss loss and now Nova’s gain.

Can you just inform Matt that I have had seven children and my va gi gi is quite fine.
