Mates and greats remember John Laws at State Funeral in Sydney
There were famous faces, high-profile pollies, dignitaries aplenty and even a touch of Hollywood in Sydney’s CBD today as legendary broadcaster John Laws was finally laid to rest, honoured with a State Funeral at St Andrew’s Cathedral.
Former PM John Howard, actor Russell Crowe (main photo), TV presenter Richard Wilkins and New South Wales Premier Chris Minns were among the high-profile guests to pay their respects during a service which had kindness at its heart.

Crowe delivered a heartfelt eulogy, remembering his former neighbour as a good friend and a very kind man.
“He had an eye for composition and beauty, a nose for a good story, and the heart of a lion, loyal, warm, and lived life to the full.”
Keeping a promise he had made to Laws, country music great John Williamson performed a rendition of his classic song True Blue.
Lawsie’s coffin was carried out of the cathedral to the tune of Roger Miller’s 1968 tune Less of Me.
It was the song Laws played in his final broadcast.
He officially hung up the headphones for final time just last year, after a career spanning more than 70 years.
