Local radio legend Marty Haynes steps into new role for i98FM Illawarra Convoy

Much-loved i98FM legend Marty Haynes has made a return to Breakfast radio today, to announce his new role as Community Ambassador for the i98FM Illawarra Convoy.

After more than two decades of waking up the Illawarra, Marty confirmed at the end of last year that he’d be taking a break from brekky radio in 2025.

In his new role, Marty – who founded the i98FM Illawarra Convoy – will leverage his deep connection to the community to drive awareness and participation in the annual event and highlight the work of the benefitting charity, The Illawarra Community Foundation (ICF).

His responsibilities will include hosting Convoy-related fundraising events, launches, and public engagements, as well as representing Convoy and the ICF at various public ceremonies.

He will also be actively involved in Convoy event operations and logistics to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Crucially, Marty will continue to attend ICF funding meetings, providing valuable input into the distribution of funds to eligible recipients, and will assist directly with the delivery of financial aid and vouchers to supported families and charities.

Plus, he’ll be giving the Illawarra audience on-air updates for major Convoy announcements.

Marty said “I’ll always be passionate about Convoy, and this new role allows me to continue working behind the scenes in making this amazing event come to life each year, so we can ultimately help even more deserving families and organisations in the Illawarra.”

Head of Radio Gen Gordon said “Convoy wouldn’t be Convoy without Marty, and I am thrilled that he continues to be part of the event and i98FM in an official capacity. This role is perfect for him, and I can’t wait to see him further contribute after so many years of dedication, in the way that only Marty can.”
