Kyle Sandilands gives impassioned speech about homelessness
KIIS 106.5 Breakfast host Kyle Sandilands has given an emotional-filled speech about the realities of homelessness.
Sandilands was invited up to speak at Sleep Under The Stars last Friday, a charity event raising money for disadvantaged and homeless youth.
The shock jock spent time living on the streets himself when he was younger.
Kyle spoke about his experiences, from being subject to family violence at the hands of his stepfather to getting kicked out of his family home.
“I remember the first night I slept on the street… I was only homeless for a year in Brisbane… I couldn’t get living out of home allowance because back then I needed a letter from my parents.
“I had a push bike… I would ride around until I found somewhere safe… behind a shopping centre, in a drain, wherever I felt safe.
“I was terrified. I was quite scared a lot.”
Kyle then spoke about how those experiences saw him end up with his first radio job in Townsville, driving around to give away prizes despite not having a license.
“I fell in love with a job I was fascinated with,” he said.
