John Burns to remain at 3AW in 2020

Former Assistant Editor
3AW

3AW Breakfast team Ross & John will go around one more time.

John Burns announced on air this morning he’s signed on for 2020, which will be his final year.

The veteran broadcaster told listeners he’ll remain on 3AW Breakfast until the end of the pair’s Tokyo Olympics broadcast.

Burns turns 75 on July 30, and will finish up on Breakfast when the Olympics finishes on July 31.

“…that would be a really good time for a judge to step down from full-time duties,” Burns said.

“I’ve had 20 of the most fun and fruitful years of my life here and am looking forward to my next chapter with 3AW.

Ross & John have racked up 144 consecutive surveys as the #1 Breakfast show in Melbourne.

The most recent GfK ratings survey saw the pair hold a 20.6% share of listening (+3.3).

“The Ross and John breakfast program is a Melbourne institution,” said 3AW station manager Stephen beers.

“Next year the pair will celebrate an incredible 20th year as an on-air partnership. This is a stunning achievement in any field and even more remarkable in the world of broadcast radio.

“We’re thrilled that Burnso has agreed to jump in the studio chair for one more year and we look forward to giving him a fitting send-off when the Olympics wrap up.”

Macquarie Media will announce a replacement for Burns in 2020.
