Hit106.9 Breakfast walk to raise $50K for local boy

Former Assistant Editor

Hit106.9 Breakfast crew Nick, Jess and Simon have raised $50,000 for local Charlestown boy Sonny Hodson.

3-year-old Sonny has a rare genetic disorder and requires $30,000 for treatment each year, so Simon Baggs walked 50 kilometres from Stockton to Swansea, selling off each km to locals and businesses.

They raised the initial $30,000 before Simon even started the walk, which is enough for three treatments for Sonny.

“For Simon to put his heart, soul and body on the line for little Sonny was a totally selfless act and I couldn’t be prouder of him and the Hit106.9 Team,” said Hit 106.9 content director Mike Byrne.

“It’s moments like this that show radio’s genuine relevance to people’s lives”.

During the walk, Nick, Jess and Simon managed to raise an additional $20,000 for Sonny past their initial target – hitting $50,000.

“I’m so proud of the entire team at Hit 106.9 for getting behind this beautiful family from Charlestown,” said Simon.

“We have an epic crew of people working in Newcastle who LOVE radio. The energy and culture in our building is the best in the country!”
