Greg Byrnes appointed head of content for Macquarie Media

Former Assistant Editor
Nine, Macquarie Media

Sky News executive producer Greg Byrnes has been hired by Nine as Macquarie Media’s new head of content.

His appointment is the latest part of a shakeup to the Macquarie business since Nine officially took over the radio business, and new managing director of radio Tom Malone announced the news on Monday (November 25).

“I’m delighted to announce that Greg Byrnes is joining Macquarie Media as our head of content,” said Malone in an email to staff.

“Greg will be responsible for all on air content across the radio division and will report directly to me.”

Byrnes is no stranger to radio, having worked at Cooma’s 2XL in the early 1990s before getting a gig at 2UE in 1993. He spent 17 years at the station, holding positions including news director and program director.

For the last decade he’s worked as channel manager and national editor, and more recently executive producer of talk shows at Sky News.

Since taking over Nine’s radio assets, Tom Malone has overseen the axing of Alan Pearsall, the departure of Michael Thompson and the reinstatement of 3AW station manager Stephen Beers.
