Green Day explode at Clear Channel

Staff Writer

Clear Channels 'IHeartRadio' Festival is on this weekend in Las Vegas, and the Australian Radio Network have dedicated a digital channel to it here (see earlier story).

As part of the DAB+ channel for IHeartRadio, ARN have committed to broadcasting this weekends concert in full tonight on the Mix network from 8pm.

The words 'in full' might need to be interpreted a little loosely by ARN following  what happened onstage overnight during Green Day's set – read the transcript and watch the video below.

The concert was running 25 minutes overtime, so the organisers decided to cut Green Day's set short. The problem was that Green Day were already onstage, and they were advised via a teleprompter that they had 1 minute left, and had to exit the stage.

Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong was not impressed when he saw the teleprompter message. He told the crowd;

"you're kidding me, you're fucking dreaming. What the fuck? I'm not fucking Justin Bieber you motherfuckers, let me show you what one fucking minute fucking means"

And with that the band proceeded to smash their guitars all over the stage, into the equipment and then threw them into the audience. Pretty reasonable odds that Green Day's set won't go to air on ARN's Mix network tonight; at least not in it's unedited glory.

UPDATE : A statement by the band has stated……."Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse. We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances."
