Gold Coast survey 2: The spin

Reporter

The champagne corks are popping at ARN, after Hot Tomato again claimed the Gold Coast’s top spot on the airwaves, achieving stand-out results with a clean sweep of the #1 position across all dayparts.

With a 15.1 share and nearly 200,000 listeners, this is Hot Tomato’s seventh winning survey in a row.

Today’s achievement follows ARN’s announcement that from September 1, Hot Tomato will move from the regional remit of the business and instead, officially operate within the metro structure.

This decision was made due to both the sheer volume of nearly 600,000 people calling the Gold Coast home and it being the nation’s fastest growing regional area, however, the station will continue to proudly broadcast the localised content that has led it to achieve such strong survey results.

Key results:

  • #1 station overall for Hot Tomato – 15.1% share and reaching 199,000 people; 36,000

more than any other station

  • #1 station P25-54 – 17.4% share and reaching 103,000
  • #1 Breakfast overall for Galey, Emily Jade & Christo – 13.3% share and reaching 112,000 people
  • #1 Drive overall for Moyra & Big Trev – 17.7% share and reaching 117,000 people

On continuing as the number one network, Hot Tomato Content Director Brendon “Whippy” Dangar says “We are again super proud of the hard-working local team that keeps on delivering fun, relevant, and local content every day on the Gold Coast. Their hard work has again paid off in the number 1 results. Did someone say survey party? We did!”

ARN’s Chief Commercial Officer Pete Whitehead adds “I would like to congratulate the team at Hot Tomato for these exceptional results. Hot Tomato are the leaders in local content on the Gold Coast and these results demonstrate the importance of that strategy for creating connections that count with audiences. I am excited by the client opportunities in this high growth.”

Up to 36% not listening to commercial radio on the Gold Coast. Surely a wake up call to the big 3 stations. My guess is they are all tuning into The Breeze. Chris Hull is doing a great job as their new drive host. Not only local but less self promotion about the hosts, more about the Gold Coast. People are sick of egotistical hosts who only promote themselves.

@Radio Gaga, we have access to see how all stations in the market perform, including those not paying to be included in the GfK survey.

Trust me, Breeze is a fart in the wind. Pun intended.
