Gold Coast Ratings: Hot Tomato holds off Gold FM to remain #1

Former Assistant Editor

Hot Tomato remains #1 on the Gold Coast in the first GfK ratings survey since the station was acquired by Grant Broadcasters last November.

In the first survey of 2019, Hot Tomato held a share of 15.4% (+0.1) among People 10+.

It is also the first ratings for the station since Dan Bradley was replaced by Brendon ‘Whippy’ Dangar as content director.

Close rivals Gold FM had a solid book, growing to a 14.8% share (+0.7), but it wasn’t enough to go top of the tree.

The top three was rounded out by Sea FM with 11.1% (+0.4) while triple j was in fourth.

Looking into the key dayparts, Hot Tomato’s Flan, Emily-Jade & Christo gained even more audience on Breakfast to finish with 16% (+1.6).

Speaking with Radio Today last year, former CD Bradley highlighted the station’s team and localism for Hot Tomato’s long-term success.

“The credit for that consistency lies with the entire Hot Tomato team, we’re really fortunate to have an incredible group of people here, with a great passion for the brand, and they’re completely engaged with the philosophy of being a station designed for the Gold Coast community,” he said.

“I’m not so sure that the role of localism is any more or less relevant on the Gold Coast than any other market, you can make a pretty solid case for it anywhere really, but for us, it’s certainly a point of difference.”

Sea FM has lost touch with the Gold Coast audience. The personalities don’t connect with the Gold Coast at all. Isn’t heather living in Sydney?
Look at the drive figures for HT and Gold… Local shows and Gold Coast stars owning the town!

Agreed Ian, Sea breakfast is terrible and an absolute gift to Hot Tomato.
