Gogglebox favourite Tom Walsh to co-host Thursday Breakfast on JOY

Staff Writer

Former Gogglebox star Tom Walsh is swapping the TV for radio and is continuing an on-air life with Melbourne’s gay and lesbian community radio station, JOY 94.9 FM.

Tom and partner Wayne Mott were favourites on Ten’s Gogglebox with Tom winning a legion of fans with his humour and his humanity.

However, at the end of last season, the couple announced they were leaving the hit show for a “life on the farm”. But it seems Tom hasn’t entirely turned his back on the media.

While filming Gogglebox, Tom took the training course offered by JOY and then volunteers his time as a daytime music presenter.

Now, the station has announced he’ll be pairing up with up and coming DJ Mikey D to continue in the Thursday breakfast show.

Last year, he shared breakfast airtime with former co-host Warren Andrew and producer “Creepy Andy” and managed to secure some big names including Opposition leader Bill Shorten, Marcia Hines, Jimmy Barnes, Carson Kressley.

Producer and Podcaster Andy McCutcheon says the pair will bring something different and unique to a Thursday morning.

“Tom’s irreverent humour has struck a chord with radio audiences and it gives him a chance to show a very serious side too, covering political issues, charity events and current affairs.

“This year, Tom teams up with fresh young radio and DJ talent Mikey D to continue in Joy’s Thursday breakfast slot, ready to do things bigger and better.

Mikey will bring with him a contrast in age, experience and viewpoints. I’m sure they’ll have a lot to teach other on and off air.”

Tom & Mikey can be heard Thursdays 6:30-9am on Joy 94.9 Melbourne and online at JOY.org.au.
