97.3FM names Georgina Marckwald music director & mornings host
Australian Radio Network has hired ex-Nova staffer Georgina Marckwald,” Radio Today can reveal.
Marckwald returns to 97.3FM Brisbane as music director and mornings announcer. She was covering casual on-air shifts earlier this year after leaving NOVA Entertainment last December.
“Georgina has carved out a very impressive career over recent years and we are delighted to be welcoming her back to ARN and the 97.3 content team,” station CD Barry Drinkwater said.
The ACRA winner began her commercial radio career at Nova Perth in 2008, before moving to Nova Brisbane as music director and announcer. She also spent a year at Nova Sydney as MD.
Marckwald won the coveted Best Music Director at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards three years running – in 2015, 2016 and 2017 – and was shortlisted again in 2018 and 2019.
“I’m so excited to be back at 97.3,” Marckwald said in a statement shared with Radio Today. “I’m very grateful to Duncan and Barry for giving me this opportunity.
“In a challenging year for us all, having my son Louis has made it a special one, and returning to 97.3 will be the icing on the cake.”
Marckwald starts at the Brisbane station on August 5 and will be heard on-air soon after.
Congrats GIM
One of the best in the biz!
I hope she can do something to improve the music. It’s truly awful – so repetitive and narrow. The older songs they play are only the most over-flogged and lame hits. I can’t listen for more than 15 minutes.
The player in the whole game is back.
Yay George! The best!
Well done 97.3 for securing an incredible talent in the business. Have no doubt George will bring plenty Of success & industry insight to the role!
Can you get her to fix the breakfast show?
We love Georgie and listen whenever possible. Great to have her back.
