Gabi from Star supports a local family

Staff Writer

Star FM Orange Breakfast Announcer Gabi Elgood (left) has lifted the bar on Dry July, and is doing a full detox for 30 days in order to raise funds for a local family.

Francine Sammut (pictured below) is a Star FM listener who is fighting breast cancer, and with a young family is struggling to cover the cost of expensive chemotherapy.

She is undergoing this treatment after the cancer has spread through her body despite having a mastectomy, removal of lymph nodes and prior chemo. Her treatment is expected to reach $80,000.

So Gabi from Star was considering doing 'Dry July' to raise money for National Cancer Support, however has decided to keep the funds raised in Orange. Gabi will be giving up alcohol, caffeine and undergoing a complete detox for the 30 days.

Gabi commented: “Changing my diet and lifestyle so drastically for the month of July is going to be tough but it will all be worth it to help out a beautiful local family I hold close to my heart.’

Another fantastic example of how radio can contribute in a powerful and engaging way with local communities.
