Deezer launches podcasts in Australia

Deezer has launched its podcast tab in Asia, Africa and Oceania, making it available for Australian users to listen through the app.

Podcasts are now available through Deezer in more than 180 countries, with shows broken down into 15 categories and sub-genres. A number of locally made podcasts, such as Shameless and Australian True Crime, are also available, in addition to some original series commissioned by Deezer.

Listeners will also be able to select podcasts by duration, and have recommendations tailored to them based on listening habits.

“Our listeners love podcasts and we’ve had a sevenfold increase in monthly podcast users since 2017. Now we’re expanding the offering to users in Asia, Africa, and Oceania,” Deezer’s VP of content, Frédéric Antelme, said in a statement.

“We expect more fans around the world to turn to podcasts at home or on-the-go. Our country selector option also makes it possible to switch your location and listen to any local podcast in its native language.”

Deezer’s music streaming product has 16 million monthly active users and 73 million tracks. Its point of difference, it says, is ‘Flow’, which offers “the unique mix of all your old favourites and new recommendations in one ever-changing stream”.
