Fresh 92.7’s Liam Stapleton hits the road for Adelaide Fringe Festival

Staff Writer

There’s a long history of stand-up comedians successfully crossing over and achieving success in commercial radio. Names like Hamish Blake, Stav, Mick Molloy, Lehmo, Marty Sheargold, Amos Gil and countless others. And there’s also a long history of great radio talent coming out of Adelaide.

Liam Stapleton is one half of Ben & Liam, who host breakfast on Fresh 92.7 in Adelaide. Fresh is Adelaide’s youth community station which plays dance, electronic and house music. Gold FM’s Anthony ‘Lehmo’ Lehmann got his start at the station years ago..

Liam and Ben have on-air together for close to a year and last weekend they did a couple of stand-up shows with a  Big Night of Wiffy Banter. Liam is now following it up with a round of stand up dates at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, which is on until March 14(tour dates and tickets click here).

It’s no mean feat combining daily breakfast radio with nightly stand up appearances but at just 19 years of age Liam’s up for the challenge, telling Radio Today “Radio and comedy go hand in hand for me, one compliments the other. At its core to be successful in both you have to be likeable and at the risk of sounding like a Content Director, relatable, and of course just plain old entertaining.

“Although I love performing on stage, tackling the beast that is breakfast radio will always be my first love. At least on air you’re not looking at the people who aren’t finding you funny”.
