Craig Willis back on air at 3AW: “It’s just like riding a bike”
Craig Willis is back in the hosting chair at Melbourne’s 3AW and he’s loving every minute.
The veteran broadcaster – who this year marks 50 years in radio – returned to the airwaves last weekend, filling in on Weekend Breakfast and Mornings while Darren James takes a break.
After his first shift, Craig – fondly remembered by many as the Voice of the AFL – told Radio Today “It was just like riding a bike – you never forget how to do it.”
“Although there have been some changes, the format largely remains the same from all those years ago when I hosted the show.”
“The best part was listeners saying “Good morning Craig” during the calls, as if I had never left! It was terrific!”
This month marks Craig’s 39th year as a contributor, announcer and host at the station.
“I started in January 1984 as the announcer for Derryn Hinch when he was the morning presenter. I remember it well, as he celebrated his 40th birthday in February of that year.”
“We have remained friends to this day.”
These days, Craig spends much of his time at his farming property in Victoria’s north east and remains one of the country’s most recognised and utilised voiceover talents.
Was such a great show! Thanks Craig Willis, so comforting to have you back on air where you belong, so entertaining, can’t wait for this weekend!
Love listening to Craig on weekend mornings. Such a smooth calming voice with interesting anecdotes. Wish you could stay on longer (sorry Daz)
