Community radio future at risk

Staff Writer

"The future of free-to-air broadcasting is digital – but for community radio stations, that future is now at risk.

Unless the Federal Government commits to giving digital community radio a future in the upcoming budget, vital digital community radio stations will be switched off.

Community radio is the voice of communities right across the country – it's too important to be lost."

This is the thrust behind a campaign called 'Commit to Community Radio', launched today by the CBAA.

They want the Government to cough up the $1.4m per year shortfall from their current commitment to digital community radio of $2.2m.

Without the total $3.6m needed, a number of community digital radio services would need to be turned off across the country.

The 'Commit to Community Radio' campaign is asking their supporters to take action.
