Christian O’Connell hosts inaugural Gold104.3 Gran Final

Staff Writer

No one can accuse Gold104.3’s Christian O’Connell of not being created as he hosted the 2018 Gran Final…and no that’s not a typo.

Christian rounded up over 100 grans at V U Whitten Oval this past Saturday to compete in a footy kick-off ahead of the AFL Grand Final in Melbourne this weekend.

The group of grans included some AFL pedigree like commentator Hamish McLachlan’s mum Sylvia and Melbourne Football Club captain Nathan Jones’s mum, Liz.

Local Bronwyn Fyfe took home the $1,000 prize money and the Gran Final Cup for her impressive 28.54-meter punt.

She dedicated the win to her grandson, Zac.

The event was staffed by fans of the show and volunteers which included a sculptor for the trophy, security, a physio to help the grans warm-up and a paramedic on standby – just in case.
