Byron Cooke commits to workdays on KIIS 101.1
Byron Cooke has cemented his role back on the airwaves, officially joining the KIIS 101.1 team as their new Workday Announcer.
Byron initially joined the team as a paternity cover for Jase Hawkins earlier this year on Jase & Lauren in the Morning and since has been working with the station as their Saturday announcer.
Byron is a voice that would be familiar to many, originally stepping away from commercial radio following a five-year stint on FOX FM breakfast in order to create his independently produced podcast, “The Byron Cooke Show” which was launched in November 2020.
The podcast delves into deep topics to make a real difference in the community and has since received a number of accolades, including Byron being named a Podcast Host / Presenter Of The Year Finalist in the 2021 Radio Today Podcast Awards.
As the Workday Announcer, Byron will be spinning KIIS’s Ad-Free 50s, bringing 50 minutes of non-stop hits with old-school anthems.
Byron says he is looking forward to being on Melbourne’s “more music shift.”
“I have loved being back on Melbourne radio with KIIS this year, as the team here really gives me the freedom to put my own spin on the ‘more music’ shift. There is a really positive energy to the station here,” said Byron.
“I am looking forward to taking this vibe across the workday in Melbourne…and the alarm isn’t going off at 4.30 am, which remains a huge plus!”
Byron is on air 9 am-3 pm from Monday 27 June and takes over the role from Ryan Jon, who has decided to focus on his successful podcast with fellow former KIIS 101.1 colleague, ‘Toni and Ryan.’
Byron stepped aside from regular radio work last year to contest a Senate seat in the recent election, but was not successful.
Nice score KIIS!
So much better than that Sunday announcer at KIIS
Goes to show good talent are leaving for new mediums. Well done Ryan and congratulations Byron.
Great coup for KIIS. Whoever nabbed him for a perm gig knows good talent
