Bush Footy sets a Record

Staff Writer

Here’s some real dedication to your local bush footy. Last Sunday the 2NM Rugby League Call Team created history as they commentated, on what would become the longest First Grade Rugby League game of all time.

Perched in a cherry picker above the grandstand, members of the 2NM Rugby League Call Team remained there for over 4 hours to deliver not only a 45 minute preview of the match but also 128 minutes of Rugby League Action. It was the Group 21 Grand Final between Scone and Denman in the Hunter Valley.  After 80 minutes both teams were locked at 20 apiece, it took another 48 minutes of footy to decide the Premiers for 2015.

2NM’s Joel Gosper said after the history making radio event, “It was nothing short of an honour to announce the names of those men who gave everything they had.

“To call continually for 128 minutes of Rugby League was test of my ability and I hoped I could relay the excitement at the ground through the radio”.

The 2NM Rugby League Call Team is led by main caller Joel Gosper and includes Dayle Richardson, Steven Reynolds and Matt Kenny. According to Channel 9’s stats guru David Middleton, they now have the honour of calling the longest game in history.

Who won? Denman are the Premiers for 2015.
