Bob Gallagher farewells breakfast radio

ARN has announced that this Friday Bob Gallagher from Brisbane’s 97.3FM will turn off his microphone after 19 years on breakfast radio.

Bob from 97.3FM’s Robin, Terry and Bob has been with the breakfast team for over 10 years and is taking a break for some family time.

“I leave the show in great shape and I’m looking forward to a sleep in after so many years of early morning starts,” said Bob.

“I am still very passionate about the future of commercial radio and hope that after a break and enjoying some time with my family, I’ll be back doing what I love in radio.”

ARN’s Chief Content Officer, Duncan Campbell said, “Bob has been a constant voice both on air and behind-the-scenes in the radio industry for almost 50 years.”

“Bob has been instrumental to the overall success of 97.3FM and has been a wonderful mentor to his on-air colleagues and staff overall and I know he will thoroughly enjoy re-setting his alarm clock to any time after 9am.”

“Bob, your passion and professionalism have been amazing, and we are all very grateful to you. I can’t thank Bob enough for his unwavering commitment and wish him nothing but the very best as he begins his next chapter.”

Beginning his radio career in regional radio in the early 70s, Bob has enjoyed a wide and varied profession in radio with on-air roles at Triple M Sydney, FM104 Brisbane and Sea FM Gold Coast.

In 2006 he joined 97.3’s new breakfast show ‘Robin, Terry & Bob,’ with Bob becoming the rock and anchor of the fast-paced breakfast show.  The legendary team has worked side-by-side for over 13 years, becoming a much-loved radio show in Brisbane.

In 2022, Robin Bailey and Terry Hansen will be back for Breakfast from January 17 and will bring with them a fresh new way for Brisbane to wake up – further details to come in the weeks ahead.

They need to dump this show. Rebrand to kiss and syndicate k j live. They will soon own river 94.9. So that a half brisbane station atm. Just push the 97.3 format to river.

I agree with Mik they need to rebrand the station to KIIS and modify the music. I personally am not a lover stations using their frequency as the station ID especially in the digital age. I feel it has no personality when frequency is used.

Picking up on previous comments, could ARN rebrand 973 as KIIS, and shift River’s licence to a fully Brisbane station with a new ID? If my memory is correct, they co-own 973 with NOVA. Is that still current, and if so, would it present a problem? That being said, WOULD they do it? What would/could stop them?
