Billboard wars: The Inspired Unemployed boys go head to head to promote Spotify podcast

Reporter

Ahead of the latest campaign for Spotify Original podcast The Inspired Unemployed, the boys have been given free rein to come up with their own marketing blitz.

Since launching the podcast with Spotify in 2021, Matt ‘Falcon’ Ford and Jack Steele have continued to bring a weekly dose of banter, humorous yarns, and raw and vulnerable conversations to the airwaves.

For this campaign, Spotify handed over its marketing to Falcon and Jack.

What did they come up with? A battle across out-of-home using billboards to have a public laugh at the expense of each other.

The whole process, from the start to the ‘making of’, to the unveiling and finally each of them revealing their story on the podcast, will be documented on social channels and the podcast itself.

The first billboard unveiled this week gives Jack the opportunity to take aim at Matt’s height, something Matt typically gets defensive above. Matt will then get his turn in two weeks as the billboards swap out.

Spotify’s Head of Podcasts Ben Watts says “The Inspired Unemployed podcast is one of the top performing podcasts in Australia.  It has been topping the Spotify podcast charts right from the first episode and the audience has only continued to grow since we launched in 2021, which is why we continue to invest in its success.”

“Handing over the marketing reins to Jack and Falcs to have a very public laugh at each other is not only a perfect example as to why the podcast is so popular, but it’s also giving those yet to listen a taste of what’s to come.”
