Results: Jase & PJ top ten best brekkie shows on FM radio

Staff Writer

The results from Radio Today’s latest reader poll are out.

KIIS Melbourne’s Jase & PJ have topped the list of Australia’s best breakfast lineups on the FM band right now, according to you lot.

Over 2,500 reader votes put the Melbourne newcomers ahead of their local and interstate rivals, closing the ballot on Sunday with a whopping 60.36% of all votes.

To put “whopping” in perspective, next in line was Moonman in the Morning with 12.14%.

After tallying those numbers on Monday, the final digits left Radio Today wondering if Jase Hawkins and PJ Harding have been madly voting during commercial breaks?

Either way, it’s refreshing to see the pair atop a peer-voted list after making the head first jump from across the ditch, and beginning to see all the hard work pay some dividends in the ratings.

Hawkins and Harding joined the network in 2018 from ZM in New Zealand and are showing positive signs of staying-power as they grow into the competitive Melbourne market.

Of the top ten revealed below, four shows are from ARN and three from both SCA and the Nova Network across metro markets Sydney, Melbourne Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

As always, let us know what you think of the final results in the comments below.

If only there was some kind of SURVEY that measured accurate data to truely RATE which is the best of the shows.

There’s only one poll that counts Survey 2 GFK ratings. In that poll the KIIS Melbourne breakfast show rated seventh ( 7th ) but nice hype.

Is this a joke

Who cares its just a poll

Far out, plenty of jaded and jealous people clearly from competitor networks on the comments here haha!

PS Survey is a gauge of radio listening, not which show is the *best*

Guess these polls are just like the radio awards – when you win they’re legit af, and when you lose they’re biased, rigged and mean nothing…

People need to chill out!!!!

Jase & PJ have lots of die-hard fans. There a plenty of facebook forums and groups wth thousands of members where everyone shares comments, opinions and jokes from the show. J & PJ themselves and their team members even engage with everyone and get in on the fun. It’s a nice little community! So don’t undermine their reach and fanbase based off the ratings surveys and be happy that the industry in general is still so important and engaging to Australia

Real scientific poll!
As every radio station named gets their staff to vote

The bitter comments here reflect the jealousy and self interest that dog our industry. First, Jase and PJ are not the only crew that has a team behind, so that cmkills off that silly claim. Second, anyone who thinks surveys are a reliable guide to audience share is deluded. It’s a bit of fun you bunch of wingers.

Ok so out of the ten listed that’s your personal rankings?

Tom Jase & PJ have lots of die-hard fans yes back in New Zealand. They have ranked EIGHTH or so in Melbourne, so how could an industry vote place them at number one is beyond me. I’m switching to that other radio site it’s more professional than this load of garbage.

It is an online poll….you know whoever gets the most votes win…if your fave didn’t win, did you vote?
What they rate is kind irrelevant in AN ONLINE POLL!!

Big fan

As a regional jock, most of us listen to jase & PJ and follow their incredible socials for inspiration. There’s absolutely no surprises they’re at the top, everyone in the industry adores them. Stop being salty! Also rightly so with Moonman second – that show is bloody tops too

Desperate – rating EIGTH after 3 years spells the death knell for these two. Jase and his side kick should have done small metro after coming over from NZ. There a HUGE difference between NZ drive standard and Melbourne breakfast. Would be good on Edge up in Sydney or in Perh / Brisbane as they need to learn the ropes and build profile and earn their stripes in Australia first.

On dab Brisbane is smooth relax – that’s what 882 4bh needs to try and become, again.
4bh was always a good listen in the car especially when having a stressful day,
I’d reinstall my dab head unit for that

Bring back Matt Tilley, Meshel Laurie or Jo Stanley. They are all very much missed on morning radio.

The cume of KIIS in Melbourne isn’t that much lower than rivals Nova and Fox. The breakfast share (6.8%) is not that far behind Fox (7.8%) and Nova.

Furthermore it’s the personalities (at breakfast and drive) more than the music playlist that’s driving ratings.

That the overall ranking still puts them behind their rivals ignores that the station overall has lagged behind their two key rivals for almost two decades.

Jase and PJ are performing above that average station performance and they’ve clearly had to be patient and persistent getting that far.

Therefore, whether they’ve been successful is not as clear as whether they’ve beaten Fox at breakfast, much as that’s something to aspire to.
