Ben Fordham on the time he corrected Alan Jones live on-air

Staff Writer

This week on You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere, Rachel Corbett chats with the host of 2GB’s drive show, Ben Fordham.

Ben’s passion for radio started when he was a kid watching his dad do guest spots on 2UE. When he was 15 he turned that passion into work experience, writing to Alan Jones to ask if he could sit in on his breakfast show.

25 years later, Ben is the drive host on the same station as the man who mentored him all those years ago.

In this episode Ben talks about how his desire to be a 60 Minutes reporter saw him chasing cannibals in West Papua, why he decided to leave The Today Show despite Karl Stefanovic’s protests.

He also opens up on the time he corrected Alan Jones live on-air when he was 15 and why he’s created a full work experience program on his show to give people an opportunity to get a foot in the door.

You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere is a podcast that goes behind the scenes of show business to prove there’s no such thing as an overnight success.

Each week Rachel chats with well-known media personalities about how they got into the business, how they’ve managed to stay there and what it takes to build a successful career. Click here to subscribe.
