B105’s Matty Acton raises $50,000 walking 50km
B105’s Matty Acton has walked 50km from the station’s Brisbane studios to the Raceview Hotel in Ipswich, raising $50,885 for the Top Blokes Foundation.
Wearing a 10kg weighted vest to symbolise carrying the weight of mental health, Matty successfully completed the journey.
After a long but uplifting day where people constantly stopped and walked with him – and thousands of supportive car horn toots – Matty made it.
His brekkie co-hosts Stav and Abby were there to welcome him across the finish line.
Matty says he was approached to be an ambassador for the foundation earlier in the year.
“I wanted to get involved because Top Blokes shine a light on mental health and suicide prevention, and they run workshops in schools to help develop great men for the future. It’s a difficult time for young men who are trying to find their place in the world. The wrong influences can send them on the wrong path. They are helping grow boys into great men, not fix broken men in the future.”
“It also struck a chord with me when asked, as I lost a cousin to suicide last year. When someone loses their life that way it leaves so many questions and I saw this as an opportunity to honour him and help other young men. Being a father of 2 boys, a Foundation like Top Blokes is something I would want for them if they needed it.”
LEGEND!!! An amazing result for such a worthy cause. Welldone
Brilliant Matty, you walked for so many boys and men, past and present.
