Ash London to leave radio next month

Former Editor & Content Director

Ash London won’t be returning to radio following her maternity leave.

London made the announcement on her Hit Network national Nights show last night.

London started broadcasting her Ash London LIVE! show in October 2016 on Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Hit Network.

London said she started the show with the dream it wouldn’t be about gossip or “celebrity BS”, but would instead be about championing the music.

“And we did that. We’ve had an amazing run, and at the end of last year when I was renewing my contract, I knew that it felt right that this will be my last year. And then two months later I weed on a stick and there was two lines, and I thought ‘Okay, that’s a confirmation that it’s definitely time’,” she said on air last night.

“So it is sad, but it’s also really exciting, because it means that somebody else gets to pick up the reins and make their dreams come true on Nights like I did.”

London said her permanent replacement had not yet been decided and there will be an announcement in 2022.

The last day of Ash London Live will be Friday, September 3. From September until the end of the year, Late Night hosts Tom Bainbridge and Oliver Morris will fill in from 7pm to 10pm.

The Hit Network’s parent company Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has been approached for comment.

Mitch Churi is the man for this job. He is crying out for a proper go.

What an absolutely amazing legacy she leaves! I loved her show! She was such an inspiration to so many female broadcasters and selflessly helped so many of them along the way!

Tom and Olly have had a good run but they’re just not ready for the 7-10 slot. They need real direction and tightening. Fresh talent in that slot would feel right. Just like the did with Ash. time will tell

Agreed with David. Mitch Churri is wasted on late nights on KIIS and would be a great steal for SCA… either that or Tom and Olly which my gut tells me isn’t the right move. your move Gemma.

There should be more Ash Londons on radio, in radio, and in life.

Mitch Churi for the move to SCA.

Apparently they have already approached Mitch and he declined the offer.

Agreed. SCA would be silly if they didn’t reach out to Mitch, if i am being honest.

A great loss to the industry and the country! Such a champion for great music!

Tom & Olly will kill it over the next 3 months! Remember up until 6 months ago, they had no team behind them. They have a “cadet” producer now but when Ash leaves her team will work on Tom & Olly. With Producers, Digital and Audio working with the boys full time I reckon they could really make some amamzing radio over the next 3 months. Hopeufully they can push themselves to that next level. No idea who should take over the slot full time next year though.

I just hope whoever takes over this shift can really lift it up for 2Day Fm because in the last survey the show only scored 2.2% in the ratings

I would give it to Graeme “Prawn”Burrill from Hope 103.2 Nights

Mitch Churi has this one. Way better to be on SCA nights across Australia rather than late nights on two stations with KIIS. Go for it big boy.

Nooooo! Finally a talented professional “young” female to inspire the next generation. Such a grave loss to the industry. I am bitterly disappointed

SCA need to hire someone that can move the needle and rate. Ash is lovely but she never rated. Mitch Churi is the next Kyle Sandilands and the only person who can save SCA nights. Fact.

Dont be surprised if you see her turn up for work with ARN.

Females to the front
18 Aug 2021 - 7:24 am

It would be great to see a female in this space! Hit is a female demo and Ash spoke to the female audience so well! (I am one of them) We are crying out for more females on the airwaves tom and olly are great but as a female they are too blokey for me! Where are my girls at!? Look at the men to women ratio on a female skewed demo.

Is Mitch off contract?

Just Saying

Mitch Churi deserves the role. KIIS doesn’t value the guy enough. Send him somewhere where he will be valued. Mitch will be #1!

Maybe the new announcer should be offered an incentive contract based on ratings because a 2% share is not good enough.

No ratings, no pay.

One name.

TAIT McGREGOR.

She can be the future of Nights radio in Australia. Like Ash London, she has an exceptional ear when it comes to music, current trends and what’s worth listening to! Her interviewing style and technique are already super-strong. And she’s BANG on trend with what the Hit network are doing at Night! Cutting edge, no BS, no gossip, just real-life, down-to-earth chats about good music.

This would be the perfect gig for her, and she would slot seamlessly into a music-focussed program like Ash London Live.

Some very good talent lurking in the both the Grant and ACE Radio networks, could be worth a listen….

Secrets out – Not the case. Tom and Olly are confirmed as the fill in but they have not chosen an official replacement for 2022. Doubt it will be the boys. They’re more suited to post 10p.
