AIM Player and AIM Radio apps grow audience for broadcasters
A recent case study by All In Media examined the introduction of the new Nation Player app for radio listeners in the UK.
Figures from the UK’s RAJAR Q3 2025 report, showed radio remains the most-consumed medium in the UK. With a weekly reach of 50 million adults, 86% of the UK’s adult population listen to live radio every week. Part of the success in keeping reach high is the delivery of audio streaming on apps.
Launched last year, Nation Player contains streams of Nation stations, podcasts and other independent UK stations.
Nation Player was developed by Nation Broadcasting and All In Media, part of Xperi, “to offer a flexible, modern listening experience across mobile, home, and in-car.”
Nation Player aggregates content from radio stations, podcasts, and other audio providers, “to bring listeners everything they need from a free-to-access audio platform.”
With over 100 stations, the app includes Nation’s stations, independent and community radio stations, and podcasts from independent producers and the BBC. Partner stations include CountryLine, Fun Kids, Sunrise Radio, Island FM, Shine Radio, Colourful, KMFM, Tomorrowland, BBC, and GB News Radio.
The Player aims to help audio brands “grow both their audience, through an established, engaged platform, and revenues, through managed advertising opportunities.”
Nation Player founder Jason Bryant is ambitious in his aims for the network. “We started with a single station app, but as an ambitious UK operator focused on growth, we needed a solution that could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Global, Bauer, and the BBC.
“We knew that an aggregator platform such as AIM Player would help us scale and onboard new stations and podcasts seamlessly. Nation Player puts the user first, leading to high levels of satisfaction and engagement.”
The app leverages Xperi’s platform, by integrating TiVo metadata for music, news, programming, and radio station content. This includes enhancing content with artist imagery and album covers, and playing information, show details, station details, news, weather, sports updates, and local events — opening opportunities to add advertising content. It provides multi-device access in-car, at home, and on-the-go.
“Brands are brought to life in a visual, vibrant way that enhances the listener experience — offering more content and promotions according to their preferences.”
According to DTS research, 72% of European drivers value radio as a key part of their in-car experience. As the connected car experience grows, this offers broadcasters yet more opportunity to expand and engage audiences.
“Vehicles are media-rich environments, with a big opportunity to not just improve the user experience, but to turn the car into a meaningful, monetisable touchpoint in the broader entertainment ecosystem. Integration with Xperi also means audio companies can be part of a collaborative revenue model, from the car to the home, to everything in-between.”
In Australia, Digital Audio listening continues to grow, with 3.5 million Australians (+22,000 YOY) streaming commercial radio weekly. CRA recently upgraded RadioApp to the AIM Player platform with several enhancements, which brings together over 350 Australian radio stations on one industry app, which highlights the sector’s commitment to meeting audiences wherever and however they choose to listen.
In the community sector, the Community Radio Plus App has also had recent upgrades and was demonstrated at last month’s CBAA Conference by Richard Phelps from All in Media Australia. In addition, several community stations have launched new apps on the AIM Radio platform, which is more suited for individual stations.

8CCC Station Manager Benjamin Erin says the AIM Radio app “brought together all 8CCC’s content with great impact – streaming, community journalism, podcasting and video seamlessly integrated and accessible to both our FM listeners and a broader digital audience across the Northern Territory and beyond.”
3RRR Melbourne’s Technology Manager Cameron Paine outlined the benefits of the AIM Radio app: “AIM Radio offered several benefits that stood out including cost effectiveness, the ease of technical integration made our extensive on-demand catalogue available through the app, and access to automotive in-dash systems that we had decided were beyond our reach.”
In a media landscape dominated by the noise from video and streaming platforms, radio continues to expand to digital platforms to maintain audience reach and relevance. Ratings show it is a winning strategy for radio industries around the world.
