AFL star Rory Lobb backs push for men’s mental health round on Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren

This morning on Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren, AFL star Rory Lobb backed Bailey Smith’s calls for a men’s mental health round.

The Western Bulldogs defender opened up about the growing pressure AFL players face in the social media era, including recent scrutiny around Elijah Hollands.

Rory said “We’re under a lot of scrutiny every week. And some people don’t realise that we are human beings. And I agree with Baz in the sense that we do need a men’s mental health round. I mean, I think we’re at that stage where it’d be really good for for the game, and, you know, drawing awareness to it.”

“I mean, there are so many passionate fans, but they have direct access to us now and in our social media, as I’ve said, with myself and others. And it’s really hard for for some players, like young players, to handle the scrutiny.”

“And we don’t know what’s going on with Elijah, but I’m hoping that the club’s getting [their] arms around him.”

Jase & Lauren can be heard from 6am to 9am on Nova 100 in Melbourne. Listeners can stream the show live or catch up with the daily podcast by downloading the Nova Player.
