The ABC is celebrating the very best of Australian radio and television with a two-hour live TV special airing tonight (Thursday June 30) and a one hour radio ‘roadblock’ the following day, to mark 90 years of Australia’s national broadcaster.

ABC 90 Celebrate! screens on the ABC’s Main Channel from 8.00pm, hosted by Zan Rowe, Tony Armstrong and Craig Reucassel and featuring a stellar line-up of famous faces from the past and present.

From 11.05am on Friday 1 July – the ABC’s actual 90th birthday – three ABC Radio networks join together to mark 90 years of radio broadcasting.

Hosted by Richard Fidler, Tuned In will broadcast across all of ABC’s capital city and regional stations, RN and internationally on Radio Australia.

The program’s Executive Producer Jen Oldershaw says the one-hour special will take listeners on a journey through the amazing stories, news and music that’s kept radio audiences entertained and informed for the past 90 years.

“We’ve uncovered some gems from the past which include the first-ever AM program presented by Robert Peach in 1967, the opening of 2JJ in 1975 and the many variations of the famous Majestic Fanfare.

“And of course, the best of ABC Radio would not be complete without a nod to Blue Hills. We have some lovely clips and memories from the Blue Hills era as well as memories of The Argonauts and Kindergarten of the Air. We’ll also take you back to the first Big Day Out and celebrate some of the great radio voices of the past and present.”

Tuned In can be heard on ABC Local Radio in all capital cities and on all regional stations, as well as on RN and Radio Australia. It will also be available on the ABC listen app.
