ABC Radio raises money for charity partners around the country
The ABC’s radio network is uniting today in a dedicated day of giving to raise money for a host of charity partners across the country, as part of ABC Gives.
More than $200,000 has been raised so far and, throughout today’s Giving Day, ABC Radio audiences will hear their favourite presenters get behind the charity drive and support those in need.
In Melbourne, comedian and Breakfast presenter Sammy J is embarking on a 24-hour radiothon, joining every ABC Radio Melbourne program in a bid to raise money for SecondBite.
ABC Radio Adelaide will see the return of its iconic ‘can-structions’ – including a giant can installation outside the ABC Adelaide studios.
The team will be broadcasting throughout the day from Foodbank SA’s Food Hub in Edwardstown, with the day culminating in a live broadcast from the Dunstan Playhouse at the Adelaide Festival Centre to mark Peter Goers’ final evening program.
Meanwhile, ABC Radio Sydney’s presenters will offer audiences the opportunity to bid on exclusive auction items to raise funds for Vinnies. Auction items include the chance to have Richard Glover join them at their book club to discuss his latest book, Best Wishes.
And in Perth, listeners will have their chance to win some money-can’t-buy prizes and experiences to help Vinnies, including a Dr Karl shirt and a lunch with Premier Roger Cook.
Finally, ABC Radio Hobart will celebrate the 35th year of The ABC Giving Tree Appeal with a day full of special on-air appearances and giveaways.
ABC Radio Brisbane, Darwin and Canberra will also give their listeners the chance to win exclusive prizes throughout the day to help the Salvation Army, Vinnies and Anglicare NT.
ABC’s Head of Audio Content Ben Latimer says “ABC Gives is an important cause that raises much needed funds for those in need right across the country.
“With the cost-of-living crisis meaning that more and more people are experiencing hardship, it’s more important than ever that we do what we can to help.”
“Every year we are amazed by people’s generosity and I look forward to seeing how much money we can raise this year to support our amazing charity partners.”
Audiences can support their local community by donating to their state’s chosen charity here. All funds raised will go directly to charity partners in each state and territory.
Since its launch in 2021, ABC Gives has collectively raised over $3 million for people in need.
