97.3’s Hinksy makes his stage debut in Brisbane

A Brisbane radio announcer is set to make his stage debut.

97.3’s Greg Hinks, aka Hinksy, is used to performing in front of a crowd because he regularly hosts Brisbane Roar games at Suncorp Stadium.

But he’s never had to sing in public before.

Hinksy will star in No News is Good News, a musical written by Brisbane playwright Damien Lee.

Lee, who spent nearly eight years working for the Seven Network, said the musical bears some resemblance to his experiences in a real TV news studio.

“Live crosses that went horribly wrong, autocue failing mid broadcast, cameramen naked in the studio, crew under the desk while the newsreader was live on air, and of course, what you don’t see the on air talent wearing under the desk” he said.

Hinsky will dance, act and attempt to sing in No News is Good News. He plays Glen, an egotisical newsreader and irresistible ladies’ man.

The show opens for a limited season at the Studio Theatre & Café in Morningside on June 7.
