Untamed and unshackled: The Fairbairn brothers launch new podcast.

If you already thought YouTube and TikTok sensations Lachlan and Jaxon Fairbairn were a bit on the wild side, strap yourselves in … because we’re about to experience them at their most untamed.

Today, their new weekly offering The Fairbairn Podcast goes live and, as Lachlan tells Radio Today, this time they’ve got a bit more wriggle room to cut loose.

“Whatever we want to do, we can do. We don’t really have as many shackles this time around. Everything that the fans know and love about us is back, and for an hour long a week.”

This year saw the creators of Fairbairn Films and the Fair Enough podcast team up with MIK Studio and Australian creative agency Neuralle.

Through their skits, conversations and everyday pisstakes, the South Australian comedy duo has built an extraordinary world-wide fan base, with more than 1.72 million YouTube subscribers and 1.5 million followers on TikTok.

Now, there’s a new podcast for fans to wrap their ears around, and Lachlan says this time, it’s not over-produced.

“We can kind of let our imaginations run wild a little bit more. It’s just a bit more free-flowing this time.”

“A lot of podcasts that I listen to kind of just go with the flow, and you really just love hanging out with these people for this period of time, and that’s what ours is going to be a bit more like this time.”

Lachlan says there’s plenty to love about podcasting.

“You don’t really have to worry about how you look, which is something that we have in common with radio.”

“Obviously we plan and produce our episodes, but it’s not as scripted as narrative content so it’s much more relaxed. You rock up, you do your thing – you have fun. It’s almost therapeutic.”

“Me and Jaxon don’t do a whole lot of catching up, so we can hang out with each other, and it’s our job for that part of the day. So that’s kind of fun as well.”

When asked about the secret to their global success, Lachlan modestly replies “I don’t think there’s anything too special about us. I think we represent very strongly a deadpan Australian sense of humour.”

“I don’t think there’s anything crazy about us. I just think we represent the good qualities that a lot of people in this country have.”

Lachlan admits that being able to do what you love for a living is pretty bloody special.

“It’s still work, but the best thing about it is – we’re self-employed. So if we want to achieve more, we strive for that, and do it. We’re not stuck underneath any blocks.”

“Also, if I want to take a holiday, I can just do that. It’s great, (but) it’s still a lot of hard work.”

Lachlan describes himself and Jaxon as typical brothers, who go through all the usual sibling ups and downs.

“Me and Jaxon, we have – what’s the word? – a very antagonistic friendship. We’re brothers and we’re only two years apart, so there’s a lot of us going at each other, teasing each other about different things.”

So, just typical brothers, then?

Lachlan laughs hard as he says “Oh yeah. We have so many arguments that I think the amount of content we do together is one of the things that helps our relationship the most.”

“It’s either that, or we wouldn’t see each other much at all. Which would probably help!”

And, whilst Lachlan and Jaxon’s mum and dad are suitably proud, there’s certainly no superstar treatment when their sons come to visit.

As Lachlan reveals, the welcome mat is certainly rolled out, but not the red carpet.

“Our parents think it’s good fun, but they don’t hold back in telling us to wash our dishes when we come home, or anything like that.”

“Absolutely nothing changes when we go home. They just try to remind us not to swear too much in our videos.”

The Fairbairn Podcast is available from today to stream on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
