UK Radio Award winners
The UK radio industry have had their night of nights this morning Australian time, and announced the winners of their annual Radio Awards: called 'The Sony Awards'.
Pictured right is the room at Grosvenor House in London just prior to the start of the event.
Our friends at Radio Today UK were there and ran a live commentary of the event which you can read back over here. Radio Today UK's Roy Martin commented about this years event:
"Very possibly the best Sonys ever, with deserving wins to the best talent in the industry today. No rivalries just radio people celebrating what they do best – creating great radio"
The BBC won 22 Gold Awards, whilst commercial stations won 13 awards. Some of the big winners were:
- BBC Radio 1Xtra won 'Best Station Imaging'.
- Jack FM and Glide FM Oxfordshire won 'Best Competition' for their version of the Australian concept '2 Strangers and a Wedding'.
- Fearne Cotton on BBC Radio 1 won 'Best Music Programme'.
- Stephen Nolan from BBC Radio 5 Live won 'Best Speech Program'.
- Music Broadcast of the Year was won by Jools Holland on BBC Radio 2.
- Speech (Talk) Personality of the Year was won by Danny Baker from BBC Radio 5 live.
- Breakfast Show of the Year (10 million plus population) was won by KISS Breakfast with Rickie, Melvin and Charlie.
- Andy Roberts from KISS won Programmer of the Year.
- Radio CIty 96.7 won Station of the Year (1 million plus population).
- UK Station of the year was won by BBC Radio 6 Music.
