20 years on the air for Triple M’s Lee Faulkner

Former Assistant Editor
Lee Faulkner

This Friday August 3, Triple M Darling Downs presenter Lee Faulkner will have spent two decades in radio.

Lee’s path to radio began as a media student in 1989 when Bob Hawke was Prime Minister.

After a decade working as a chef, and selling everything from mobile phones to vacuum cleaners, Lee secured his first radio job in sales at 4SB Kingaroy.

He managed to get himself on Saturday morning radio within a week, before he secured his first proper Brekky gig in 2001 in Toowoomba.

The rest is history.

In the past 20 years, Lee has interviewed some of the biggest names in sport, politics and music, broadcast his show from XXXX Island and while swimming with whales, and more recently was serenaded by Michael Bolton on air.

Lee attributes his longevity to endless amounts of coffee and the stories of his listeners, as well as helping his local community via initiatives like Give Me 5 For Kids (raising $700K for the Toowoomba Hospital Children’s Ward).

The team at 846AM Triple M Darling Downs hope that his passion for the region (and for his beloved Paramatta Eels) will keep him going for another 20 years, with Lee previously swearing not to give radio away until the Eels lift another premiership.
