Triple M Darling Downs’ Lee Faulkner issues powerful apology

Former Assistant Editor

Triple M Darling Downs’ Lee Faulkner has issued an apology live on air this week to the women in his life.

The apology was triggered by Senator David Leyonhjelm‘s comments towards fellow Senator Sarah Hanson-Young this week in parliament.

Leyonhjelm infamously told Hanson-Young to “stop shagging men” and has since attacked female journalists who have reported on the incident.

“Too many of us sit idly by and watch it unfold as a blip on the 24-hour news cycle,” said Lee on air.

“It’s brought me to a moment of self-reflection on my own treatment of women in society.

He outlines that he’s been involved in “locker-room talk” in his life and been “guilty of allowing myself to accept this behaviour as part of the norm, part of Australian culture.

“But the bottom line is this. If I expect my wife and my daughter to have the same opportunities in life as me and my son are afforded… Then something has to change.
