triple j’s Gen Fricker returns to radio following alleged on-air assault

Former Assistant Editor

triple j’s Gen Fricker has returned to her Lunch shift for the first time in a month.

Fricker took time off following an alleged assault in September, which saw a man arrested after unlawfully gaining access to the ABC’s Ultimo offices, and grabbing and kissing Fricker while she was on air.

31-year-old Kieren Gallagher had reportedly been stalking Fricker for several months.

Following his arrest, he was to be assessed under the Mental Health Act, to return to court at a later date.

The regular Lunch host thanked listeners for their support over the last month.

“It is so, so lovely to be back with you on triple j hanging out this arvo. Big thank you to Lucy [Smith] and Ciaran Lyons for filling in for me over the past month or so,” she said.

“Thank you to everyone who sent me lovely messages as well. I’m feeling heaps better and I’m stoked, because what better way to spend a day than playing music for you fine people?”

Following the alleged incident, ABC director of news Gaven Morris revealed in an email to staff that more security guards had been placed on site since the incident.
