triple j alumni open Melbourne comedy bar

Former Assistant Editor

Two of triple j’s favourite sons – Alex Dyson and Kyran Wheatley – have made a career about-face and gone into the hospitality business.

They’ve opened a new bar in Melbourne called BOB (Balding Older Brother) in the spot where Melbourne CBD Bar Hairy Little Sista had stood.

The bar launch follows the launch of a new podcast called MIRTH last week

The old bar closed due to not being able to pay a massive fine after not paying APRA royalty fees, so Alex and Kyran jumped into action to restore their favourite Melbourne International Comedy Festival hangout.

But the duo found out quickly that running a bar wasn’t as simple as just coming up with a name, so they’ve teamed up with Bellingin Brewery designer/operator Benji Mayes and Melbourne brewery Stomping Ground who’ve brewed a specialty beer just for BOB.

The new comedy podcast will be recorded right there in the bar.

“All Melbournians are invited to come and watch MIRTH live each day from 5pm,” said Kyran.

“We’ll have comedians popping in, special guests hosts at times, and would love to get audience interaction happening too. Provided it fits within the confines of our public liability insurance.”
