Townsville’s biggest names set to join Adam & Donny for marathon charity challenge
This Friday (June 19), the iconic Townsville Sign could well be the busiest spot in town as Star 106.3 Breakfast duo Adam Davison and Donny Watkin put their bodies on the line for the Townsville Sign Marathon and a Half.
But they won’t be doing it alone.
Adam and Donny are calling on the entire Townsville community to come down, ‘donate a lap’ and help them get through a staggering 1,376 laps … a full 63.3 kilometres.

Adam admits he and Donny probably don’t have a marathon-and-a-half in them – so they’ll be leaning heavily on the local community to show up and keep them moving.
“Bravus Mining & Resources have pledged $1 per lap, so every lap walked, jogged, or crawled by the team and the community means real money for families in need,” Adam says.
“The response from local legends has been massive, we’ve had listeners already calling the station promising to show up rain, hail, or shine to help us survive, and thrive.”
Donny says although they’re running to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities, the current topic of conversation on-air is almost exclusively about the fear of extreme chafing.
“We are really hoping the community will bring more than just their running legs; a bit of extra anti-chafe cream wouldn’t go astray either!”
“The Marathon and a Half is also a massive shout-out to the McDonald’s Townsville Running Festival taking place on August 2nd, so we’re hoping to build hype for the city’s premier running event while also raising extra funds.”
This is just the latest in a long line of extreme challenges for the brekky duo.
Back in December, they broadcast for 24 hours straight during their Toy-A-Thon, rallying Townsville to raise over $20,000 worth of toys for Ronald McDonald House just in time for Christmas.
“It’s safe to say we have a bit of a soft spot for the charity, and a real passion for putting ourselves through the wringer to help out,” says Donny.
Adam says they’ve stepped things up this year, with the course officially mapped by measurement expert Ross from the Townsville Running Festival, and every runner receiving a special race bib to prove they did their bit.
“We’ll be broadcasting live on 106.3 for the entire duration, and for those listeners unable to join in person, the whole thing will be live streamed on the Star 106.3 Facebook page and even feature pace tracking and lap-counting stats,” Adam says.
Confirmed to hit the track and donate a lap are sporting Icons Matty Bowen, Terry Campese, James Tamou, the Mendi Blackhawks and Mendi Mick.
Civic and community leaders taking part include Mayor Nick Dametto, Natalia Marr MP, Adam Baillie MP, Janell Pool MP, Phill Thompson MP and Councillor Brady Ellis.
Essential services representatives, local firefighters and members of the Australian Defence Force will also be joining the fundraising effort on the day.
