Townsville wakes up to new STAR 106.3 Breakfast show

Townsville and North Queensland has a new-look Breakfast show to wake up to, with Get Up with Adam & Donny launching this morning on STAR 106.3.

Joining Donny (Tom Watkin) on air is Adam Davison, from Launceston’s Chilli FM.

It follows the departure of former Donny’s former co-host Archie (Sam Arenson), who now hosts the Drive show with Henry Bretz on 92.7 MIXFM.

With years of experience and a passion for creative, community-driven content, Adam joins an impressive cast on STAR 106.3 Breakfast, including Bethany Ross and Jake Lacey.

STAR 1063 enjoyed ratings growth in the most recent survey. It says it has big plans for 2026 alongside its big brother POWER100, and that Adam’s appointment marks another major step forward in building a powerful local content team for the region.

Content Director Stu Tolan says “STAR 1063, Townsville & NQ have really connected to Donny his antics, his creativity and his talent for taking a small local piece of content and turning it into something big, entertaining and 100% local.”

“When recruiting Donny’s new co-pilot , we wanted someone who could drive as fast as Donny, change lanes smoothly in a split second and someone who genuinely wanted to join a winning team and have fun. Adam was that person.”

The show is committed to being live, local and agile. Adam & Donny pride themselves on being able to react instantly to whatever’s happening across the city.  If something goes down on The Strand or at Riverway, they can be there within minutes.

“Getting out of the studio and into the community is everything for us. When something happens here, we want to be in it probably having a laugh about it but definitely not just sitting back and talking about it.”

Donny says the goal is for listeners to feel like the show belongs to them.

“We’re just the two blokes behind the wheel, hanging on and having fun with you. We don’t want to be the usual ‘I saw this last night’ kind of radio. We want to give Townsville and North Queensland something bigger, something genuinely local and something that feels like it’s theirs.”

Adam will meet nearly 10,000 locals this Sunday as he and Donny host the pre-show at Carols by Candlelight, marking his first major appearance in front of the community.

He’ll then help the team bring in New Year’s Eve on The Strand, which STAR recently secured from SCA for the first time in decades.
