Radio Today’s ‘Top New Talent to Watch’ returns next month
One of Radio Today‘s most-read lists is returning for an eighth edition, as we sweep far and wide across the country to uncover the Top New Talent to Watch in 2020 and beyond.
This year, we’re looking beyond just those working in commercial radio and looking for talent in the wider world of audio, from podcasts and community radio to YouTube and television.
In an age when audio is a heavily congested marketplace and radio must compete with streaming and podcasts, talent and personalities are a key differentiator for radio.
The 2019 edition broke historic ground in terms of female representation, with women making up 10 of the 13 featured.
As usual, many of those named have moved on to bigger and better things. From 2019’s Top New Talent To Watch, Grace Garde, Paris Humphrey, Those Two Girls, Mel Tracina and Tiffany Rouge have all either moved to higher-profile timeslots, different stations, or bigger markets.
Previous editions have featured the likes of Bree Tomasel, Ben & Liam, Tommy Little, Kristie Mercer, Amos Gill, Will & Woody, Brooke Boney, Danny Lakey and many more.
In recent weeks Radio Today has listened to countless airchecks, hours of live radio, scoured some of Australia’s best podcasts, and spoken industry insiders to try to find the future stars of Breakfast and Drive shows around the country.
Make no mistake, we leave no aircheck or submission from programmers unheard during the reporting of this list.
We’re putting the call out to you as well, our valued readers, to shine the spotlight on someone who you’ve noticed is standing out from the crowd.
Let us know in the comments who you think could be a future star of Australian radio.
Would love to see The Power Pack (Krystel and Damon) from Power in SA get some love!
Damon’s also been killing it in his media role with the Port Adelaide footy club as well. Putting their stamp on outer metro SA and for mine, worth watching!
Josh from Power FM in Ballarat. He’s relatively new to the game but always entertaining to listen to and has come so far, from listening to him over the months. He always tells us about things going on in town and does his part for the community by helping out at every event. Definitely someone to keep an eye (or ear) on!
I’m going for my sixth year in this industry and sixth consecutive year not featured in this article. Wish me luck.
There is something about Billy Bradley that suggests he will one day be a national name. He had wit, pace, intelligence and empathy. All the traits of someone who will go all the way.
Billy Bradley is the best new talent on his way up to the top . Loving listening to him as I drive to work
Ariana is the new breakfast radio host on Mudgee REALFM. She brings a bright and uplifting start to my day and is a fresh new engery. Congratulations Ariana i love waking up with your show.
Check out the new breakfast host at Mudgee REAFM Ariana. Great to see a young female talent getting an opportunity.
I would love to see Ariana Gatti from Mudgee Radio Station REAFM be given the chance to show her excellent broadcast skills. Ariana is a very hard worker and deserves a chance to shine in the spotlight.
Ariana Gatti from Mudgee REALFM. Some new talent for the area, nice to hear such a young and vibrant personality on the air, very refreshing.
Love listening to Bill Bradley. best radio I’ve heard on Triple M Brekkie in 15 years and been listening for 15 years now… watch this bloke 😉
I’m really loving what Bill Bradley has done since arriving at Triple M in Goulburn Valley. I listen to the station at work every day and really enjoyed his chats with big name musicians, as well as the time and focus he’s put into the region and knowing what’s important to the people living here. His videos discussing the drought crisis made a huge impact and started a lot of conversation. Well done Bill, keep it up!
Ariana Gatti is an excellent choice
Keeshia from Bendigo is a bloody powerhouse. She won’t be regional for long
A D from Hill FMs Morning Grill in Broken Hill is awesome He is Always bright and chirpy He makes you laugh and his music selection is great
He has a great positive attitude considering he’s just been through cancer, He passionate about his Job and his community
Would do anything to help
Check out Arianna the morning host on REAFM in Mudgee. Great fresh young talent to brighten your morning.
Ali Plath ex Triple M Hobart, is one to watch. Warm , witty , mum of 4 , great story teller. Dives in deep when it comes to local.
AB at Coffs for the win
There is no list. Only josh.
@Tony good call the ACRAS left her off a list once and they still haven’t heard the end of it!!!!
Interesting to see Tiffany Rouge mentioned as “moving on to bigger things”. I heard she left for nothing and is no longer “On Air”.
Thommo from Fresh and Damon from Power – two rising stars of SA radio that I flick between on the South Eastern every morning.
My girl Loz already got some love on this list!
Nick & Haydo on hit central Queensland!
there’s a guy called Jordy who’s definitely not me and he works at Edge FM Deniliquin which is also definitely not where I work and he’s doing some pretty cool things and stuff, check him not me out some time haha x
hi I’m definitely not Jordys friend and he definitely didn’t tell me to post this also, but there’s this guy called Jordy at Edge FM Deniliquin and he’s funny and also really handsome. He gets my vote. Mine of course, not his own.
Bryan Coghlan
Bryan Coghlan from Triple M Bendigo
Bryan Coghlan
Nich and Haydo on 107.9 in Rocky!
Hey I’m also not Jordy’s friend, in fact I hate the guy because he’s so talented and good looking (my words not his) but I’ve gotta say he’s a great announcer for someone who’s been at Edge FM for only like a month. Also I don’t know Lokky either, the other guy who doesn’t know Jordy in this comment section
Bill Bradley’s been doing some great interviews in 2019, love listening to them.
Tim and Owey from The Bodysurf Podcast having been doing stuff together for years and have been trying to break into radio together. They are always doing radio chat in their podcast and are pretty good up and coming talents. Tim is a great anchor and works all the gear while Owey is more opinionated and a great interviewer.
Vic & Em on Joy 94.9. Honestly the best thing on community radio right now.
