Following our Top Women on Air in 2015, Radio Today has put together the The Top 20 Most Influential Men On Air on Radio for 2016.

There are some brilliant broadcasters on air in Australian metro radio. Most are on the key breakfast shows and some on drive.

Radio Today consulted a number of radio industry experts to compile the list.  These are the great broadcasters, excellent communicators, men with star power who rule the airwaves.

The Top 20 Most Influential is based on market size, longevity, ratings success, uniqueness, star power and cut through. Some have been around for decades, some fairly new.

We look forward to your thoughts and comments and any names we may have missed.

 

Here they are, the Top 20 Most Influential Men. 

 

1.  Kyle Sandilands –  ARN’s KIIS – part of the most successful breakfast duo in Australian radio history with Jackie O.  He tops the Sydney FM ratings and is largely responsible for turning around the fortunes of KIIS and ARN.

 

 

 

 

 

2. Alan Jones – Announcer 2GB – One of Australia’s highest rating and highest profile Breakfast announcers. Alan is one of the most influential personalities in Australian radio.

 

 

 

 

 

3 Ross Stevenson & John Burns – 3AW – Top rating Breakfast announcers of MRN’s 3AW, who have led Melbourne’s breakfast ratings since 2001. Now with over a 20% ratings share.

 

 

 

 

 

4. Eddie McGuire – Triple M Breakfast Co-host of SCA’s Triple M Hot Breakfast show with Mick Molloy and Luke Darcy. The key driver of Triple M Melbourne’s ratings success.

 

 

 

 

 

5. Hamish and Andy – SCA’s Top rating national drive duo on the Hit network. Number 1 in Melbourne at Fox. Hamish and Andy are now the number 1 metro network drive show in share.

 

 

 

 

 

6. Marty Sheargold – from Kate, Tim and Marty – Nova’s top rating show. The show has now been with this line-up for over 2 years. Currently the highest cuming drive show nationally.

 

 

 

 

 

7. Dave Hughes – comedian from Hughesy and Kate – Formerly Nova100 Breakfast and now highly successful and top rating at ARN. Dave’s on national drive on the KIIS network.

 

 

 

 

 

8. Mick Molloy – Triple M Announcer – Co-host of the top rating Hot Breakfast with Eddie McGuire on Triple M Melbourne. Originally part of the ground-breaking national drive show Martin Molloy.

 

 

 

 

 

9. Tim Blackwell – from Kate, Tim and Marty – Nova’s top rating drive show. Tim was previously heard on breakfast with Meshel Laurie at Nova Brisbane.

     

 

 

 

 

10. Ray Hadley – 2GB Morning Announcer– top rating morning announcer currently with the highest rating show in Sydney.

 

 

 

 

 

11. Neil Mitchell – 3AW Morning Announcer at MMN’s 3AW, who leads Melbourne morning ratings and an inductee into the Australian Commercial Radio Hall of Fame.

 

 

 

 

 

12. Fitzy & Wippa – Nova Sydney Breakfas – Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael Wipfli started on drive at Nova in 2011 and later that year commenced on breakfast. Now the number 2 FM breakfast show in Sydney.

 

 

 

 

 

13. =  Brendan Jones from Jonesy & Amanda – WSFM Breakfast – Top rating WSFM Breakfast hosts Amanda Keller and Brendan Jones have been near the top of the FM ratings in breakfast in Sydney for over a decade.

 

 

 

 

 

13. = Merrick Watts – Merrick Watts formerly from Nova’s Merrick and Rosso hosts national drive on the Triple M network.

 

 

 

 

 

14. = Ash, Kip and Lutsy – Nova Brisbane –This current lineup has now been together since 2012. The number 2 FM breakfast show in Brisbane features Ash Bradman, Kip Wightman and David Lutteral.

 

 

 

 

 

14. = Matt and Alex – Triple J Breakfast – Matt Okine and Alex Dyson lead the j’s across the nation.

 

 

 

 

 

15. Kent Small – Smallzy’s Surgery Nova – The top rating national night show in Australia. Smallzy can be heard on the national Nova network. Previously on Nova Brisbane and Star104.5.

 

 

 

 

 

16. Nathan and Shaun Nova  –from Nathan, Nat & Shaun Nova Perth, who recently celebrated 10 years on air. They are the highest rating breakfast show in Perth.

 

 

 

 

 

17. Matt Tilley – KIIS Melbourne breakfast host with Meshel Laurie. Matt was formerly on  national drive at triple M and was previously top rating breakfast host on SCA’s FOXFM.

 

 

 

 

 

18. Matty Johns, Gus Worland, Mark Geyer –The Grill team. Triple M Sydney’s Breakfast show have been together now for 5  years.

 

 

 

 

 

19. Sam Pang – Nova Melbourne – a radio and television host Sam previously worked at Triple M Melbourne and community station Triple R.

 

 

 

 

 

20. =  Spencer Howson – the top rating Breakfast presenter on 612 ABC Brisbane, Spencer commands a 15% share and leads breakfast in the river city.
