Team Fitzy takes the win as Backyard Cricket returns to Kirribilli House

Team Fitzy has prevailed, as Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie’s Backyard Cricket returned to Kirribilli House yesterday.

A host of VIPs and special guests took part in the Nova charity match, showing support for both Ronald McDonald House Charities Sydney (RMHCS) and Batyr Australia.

While Wippa took the mic in the commentary booth alongside Kayo Sports ambassador Brendon Julian, it was Team Fitzy against Team Kate this year.

Fitzy’s team consisted of Amy Shark, Nedd Brockmann, Richard Wilkins, Damien Cook, Dr Andrew Rochford, Cameron Merchant, Matt De Groot, Fitzy’s son Hewie and listener Josh.

Team Kate included Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Brett Lee, Lleyton Hewitt, Ray Meagher, Premier Chris Minns, Cortnee Vine, Matt Shirvington, Mark Ferguson and listener Riley.

After winning the toss, Fitzy sent his side in to bat first, and the game got off to a spectacular start, with Cam Merchant smashing a six off the very first ball straight into Sydney Harbour.

Some critical catches were missed. The PM dropped a ball hit by Rabbitohs star Damien Cook and Matt Shirvington was foiled by the outdoor furniture in his bid to take a massive catch in the outfield.

While a secret training session with cricket superstar Alyssa Healy earlier in the week may have boosted her confidence, Kate Ritchie was quickly out LBW, as was Brett Lee later in the game.

Despite some lenient judgements from returning umpire Bruce, it was Team Fitzy that ended up taking the win with 89 runs to Team Kate’s 69.

Smooth FM’s Richard Wilkins was awarded Player of the Match.

All for a great cause, Ronald McDonald House Charities Sydney and Batyr Australia were each presented with $10,000 each following the game.
