Tamworth’s 96.3/88.9fm doubles regional news services

Tamworth community station 96.3/88.9fm has announced it will double its regional news team and services from today, 3 October 2023.

As a result of the developments, Jim Booth (right) has been appointed Regional News Editor, joining Senior Journalist Jon Wolfe (left).

Station CEO George Frame said the update will bring more experience to the newsroom, providing reliable information for the region throughout the workday.

“They both have extensive newspaper, ABC and commercial radio newsroom experience and this appointment doubles our news bulletins across the day and from this week gives the region more daily news updates across regular programming,” he said.

96.3/88.9fm will now bring listeners additional regional news bulletins every weekday from 5:30am to 5:05pm.

The regional NSW community station covers the New England, Northwest and Liverpool Plains regions.

In July, the station celebrated 40 years of broadcasting, making it one of Tamworth’s oldest community stations.

Congratulations, Tamworth’s 88.9 on the commitment to local news!
Sadly, the commitment to local afternoon-drive news appears to have been lost by regional stations – commercial, community and public broadcaster.
In the New England-North West market of the early 1990s, I can remember when there were 4.30pm and 5.30pm Regional News Bulletins.
May this be the turning of the tide including a lift in the local content quota to include afternoon/drive local news bulletins.
Kind regards,
Garry Blair,
