Super Radio 531 wins local business award

Former Assistant Editor

Port Macquarie’s FM93.5 Radio 531AM took home the Creative Services and Communications Category at Saturday Night’s Greater Port Macquarie Business Awards.

The Super Radio Network station, also known as Radio 531, only has three staff members, making the win all the more impressive.

The award was accepted by sales and marketing manager Nik James on behalf of the team, and he attributed the win to the station’s commitment in assisting numerous charity and not-for-profit organisations with ad campaigns and interviews in addition to providing an MC for events at no charge.

“It was the first time the station had been nominated so we were just happy to be a finalist,” he said.

“It’s an extremely competitive marketplace with a large number of media outlets so winning this award provides us with incredible exposure and can only assist us in terms of picking up listeners and advertising dollars. Winning the Award feels like David defeating Goliath. We’re overwhelmed by the community support.”

John O’Callaghan is approaching 45 years in the industry and serves as station manager, news director, announcer and production guru.

Nik James is the sales and marketing manager, who also fills-in on-air spent over a decade over a decade at the local Triple M station (formerly 2MCFM).

Director of first impressions and sales assistant Erin McCudden rounds off the team.

The award is also the first time a commercial station in the region has taken out a business award.
