Steve Woods releases new book; “It’s the perfect companion to anybody working in radio”

Former Assistant Editor

Director of Bang The Drum media and ex program director of My Generation, Steve Woods, has released a book titled For The Record: Australian Pop Culture 1964 – 2017

The book contains all the sorts of trivia, facts and figures that were used to build programs like My Generation – including the major news events of each year in events media and entertainment, sport and music.

At its peak, My Generation peaked in 97 markets across the company, and became Australia’s biggest syndicated radio program.

Speaking with Radio Today, Woods said the inspiration for the book came from a lack of publishing on pop culture and music trivia specific to Australia.

“When I was at Triple M and K Rock we often asked the announcers to research the music to add flavour to their programs,” he said.

“The problem was that all the books in the studio were published in America or England, so there was little local trivia to work with. So, for the first time, we have a complete history of events, music, media and sport from an Australian point of view.

“It’s the perfect companion to anybody working in radio television or press looking for a quick reference book with trivia and facts that will connect with an Aussie audience.

For The Record makes it as easy as looking up the year in question, and finding the right tidbit for your back-announcement, or the perfect piece of trivia for your interview.

“There is a chapter devoted to everything in each year from 1964 to 2017. If you are in media, you will love this book!”

For The Record: Australian Pop Culture 1964 – 2017 by Steve Woods is now available to order online.
