Steal of the Year: Marcus Lush

Staff Writer

It has been a big couple of days for New Zealand's Marcus Lush.

Marcus had his car stolen, his son took his first steps and he jumped radio networks – all in one week.

Who is he?

Marcus Lush is part of thecurrent MediaWorks RadioLive breakfast team, well he was.  In what NZ press are dubbing the ‘steal’ of the year, NZME have signed him up to join the ZB talk network at the end of 2015.

Marcus is multimedia star of the New Zealand market, he transitions across radio, television and print. The move for Marcus is well timed, as the RadioLive show will be replaced by a new Paul Henry-fronted television/radio breakfast show next year.

“Marcus is a brilliant broadcaster – he is Radio Live’s most successful performer but he is also a favourite with New Zealanders on screen and he writes well.

"NZME. offers him the opportunity to showcase all of his talents. Marcus is a natural fit to work with us as we continue to grow our #1 rating nationwide night show on Newstalk ZB. He’s bloody top talent, one of the best and he deserves to be working with the best”, said Dallas Gurney, General Manager Talk for NZME.

“While I’ve enjoyed my time on breakfast, night-time talk on Newstalk ZB is my natural home.  NZME. is an exciting new media company to work for and Newstalk ZB is the pinnacle of talk radio.  They are professionals and I can’t wait to get started”, said Marcus Lush

Marcus will take over ZB nights from Kerre McIvor, who will move to the afternoon slot on ZB.

The New Zealand talk market will be hotly contested in 2015 and one to watch. The battle between the current number 1 breakfast show of MIke Hosking on NZME' ZB and the arrival of the new MediaWorks Paul Henry Breakfast show on RadioLive, that will be broadcast simultaneously on TV, Radio and online.
