Shut Up I’m Talking

Staff Writer

Following Brad March’s article on Ryan Jon’s From the Internet Podcast series another couple of guys doing good things with podcasts are Josh Olek from Wave FM and Sam Blacker from Power FM.

Their series Shut Up I’m Talking is basically banter between a couple of ‘cheeky bastards’.

Josh has worked at SEN, Star Gippsland, 2XL Cooma and is currently on nights at Wave in Wollongong.  Sam started at Sun969 Alice Springs and has worked at SnowFM and is now on drive at Power FM Ballarat.

The idea behind the podcast:“We became best mates while working in Jindabyne, but never really got the opportunity to make content together (not for a lack of trying). I’d left to go to Wollongong and Sam made the move to Ballarat. During that time Sam introduced me to the wonderful world of podcasts through TOFOP, That’s Aweson, Steele Saunders’ ‘Green Guide Letters’ and The little dumdum club. At some point we went STUFF IT, we’re doing a podcast where Sam then decided that he would fly up from Melbourne once a month to record it”.

We really went into this podcast being like “What are the things we like about podcasts and how do we go about putting our own spin on it”. We came to the conclusion that the best podcasts are two mates, just having a chat about stupid stuff with no limits as to what they can talk about. I’m loud and stupid whereas Sam is witty and quieter than me. Our differences are what makes the podcast interesting.”

Sam said: “I’ve been wanting to do a show with someone for ages, clearly I’m terrible at timing because we didn’t decide to do this one until we were both living interstate from each other.

I’ve become obsessed with the podcasting world, and how listeners form whole communities around shows, and really wanted to get around that”.

There are no limits to what Sam & Josh talk about, “We love that doing a podcast like this gives you the ability to do shows based around in jokes, which you really can’t do as easily on radio. We call our listeners S**t Heads, and made up a religion about the universe being a giant toilet”.

Guests on the podcasts have included Bronte Coy (newsreader 2Dayfm/MMM), Paul ‘Browny’ Brown (Wallofsound.org), Dan Hill (Sea FM Gold Coast), Brad Wood (Sea FM Central Coast), and their next episode will feature Andrew “Dunks” Dunkerley (he’s been everywhere).
