SEN’s Kane Cornes claims top honours at 2025 Australian Football Media Awards
SEN is celebrating another successful showing at the 2025 Australian Football Media Association (AFMA) Awards, with multiple accolades recognising the network’s talent and programming.
Leading the charge was Kane Cornes, who took home both the prestigious Alf Brown Award and the Lou Richards Medal for the second year running.
Presented to the person deemed the best overall media performer, the judging panel described the 2025 Alf Brown field as more competitive than ever in 2025, with Cornes’ sustained quality across his work on programs like SEN’s Fireball with David King and Sportsday with Gerard Healy setting him apart.
SEN talent was recognised across multiple categories throughout the evening.
Garry Lyon, co-host of Breakfast with Garry & Tim alongside Tim Watson, received a Commendable Mention in the Best Opinion/Analysis – Individual category.
Both Whateley (with Gerard Whateley) and SEN Breakfast (including Fireball on Mondays and Fridays, and Breakfast with Garry & Tim from Tuesday to Thursday) also received a Commendable Mention in the Best Radio Program category.
Gerard Whateley earned a Commendable Mention in the Best Radio Match Caller category.
Dwayne Russell, host of Dwayne’s World and a key voice on SEN’s AFL Nation coverage, was recognised for his commentary work on Fox Footy.
Caroline Wilson, heard on SEN’s Don’t Shoot The Messenger podcast alongside Corrie Perkins, also received Commendable Mentions for Best Opinion/Analysis (for her work with The Age) and Best News or Feature Reporting.
SEN CEO Craig Hutchison says it’s pleasing to see the work of the extended SEN family recognised by the AFL industry.
“We’re incredibly proud of our team and the recognition they’ve received at this year’s AFMA Awards,” Hutchison said. “Kane’s back-to-back wins are a testament to his relentless drive and impact across the media landscape. The breadth of talent across our network – from our regular daily programming, through to our live sport commentary and podcasts – shows our commitment to delivering the best in football media, every single day.”
Congratulations Kane Corns
