Sea FM vs Hot FM

Staff Writer

There is certainly a football theme this weekend on Radio Today.

Following our story yesterday (here) on Triple J's Alex Dyson and his football exploits, comes another one, this time from Southern Cross Austereo in Cairns.

Nick Gill (in red) is Breakfast Announcer at Hot FM Cairns, former AFL player with the Adelaide Crows, and recruit for the Cairns Saints AFL club.

Billy Bentley (in black) is Breakfast Announcer at sister station Sea FM Cairns, and a player with the Cairns City Lions.

Today at 3pm, the teams, and therefore the colleagues go up against each other in round 4 of the Cairns AFL competition.

Speaking in the Cairns Post about the atmosphere at the radio stations leading up to the game, Gill commented "He’ll drop a quick sledge just before I go back on air and I have to keep my composure"

"There’s boobytraps; if I can push him down the stairs before Sunday, everyone (at the Cairns City Lions) will be happy," Bentley said. "If Nick Gill goes missing, we don’t know anything."

Gill's team are the favourites with an undefeated start to the season, whilst Bentley's team are yet to win a game: "It’s definitely a David v Goliath battle, but we’ll be giving it a good crack," Bentley said.
