Sea FM Cairns support tourism

Staff Writer

The main industry in Cairns is, and has always been, tourism. When tourists are down, Cairns is in trouble.

At the moment, passenger numbers into Cairns International Airport are increasing, due largely to direct flights from China.

Sea FM Cairns is capitalising on this by distributing A5 'Welcome' stickers to businesses around Cairns to display in the shop windows, welcoming customers in four languages – Chinese, Japanese, German and English.

Southern Cross Austereo General Manager Gina Hogan commented;

“99.5 Sea FM is Cairns live and local radio station, we are proud to be a part of the community. This is our way of supporting local businesses and making our visitors feel welcome”

One of the businesses getting behind the Sea FM campaign is Brothers Leagues Club. Their Promotions Manager, Jeff Mizen, said;

“It doesn’t matter who you are in Cairns, one way or another we are all affected by Tourism. We all need to embrace it and anything to make a visitor feel more welcome is a step in the right direction.”

Sea FM also hosted an official “WELCOME” sticker ceremony today.
